​​​​NSE, EY Partner to Promote Sustainable Business Practices in the Nigerian Capital Market​

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), in conjunction with Ernst & Young (EY) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), organized the inaugural Nigerian Capital Market Sustainability Conference on Friday, November 13, 2015 at Eko Hotel, Lagos, Nigeria.

OnyemaThe conference themed “Business Transformation through Transparency”, featured a CEO roundtable and three plenary sessions that brought together CEOs of list​ed and non-listed companies, CSR and Sustainability Officers, Directors of relevant units, capital market operators, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders to deliberate on three critical topical issues - Corporate Governance, Financial Reporting and Environmental and Social Audits. 
                                                                                                                    
Participants were provided with high-level insight into the impact of sustainability reporting on the valuation of companies and the proposed Disclosure Guidelines of The Nigerian Stock Exchange. The conference also served as veritable platform for CSR leaders to learn, contribute and share ideas on the GRI G4-reporting guidelines and the sustainable investment initiatives across other stock exchanges. 

In his presentation titled “The Imperative of Sustainability in Building a Stronger Nigerian Capital Market”, the Chief Executive Officer of The NSE, Mr. Oscar N. Onyema, OON, stated that “NSE will continue to leverage its unique position in the Nigerian capital market to stimulate responsible investment and sustainable development by promoting globally accepted sustainable agenda and principles, creating value at the source of investment and improving investor confidence through the promotion of ethical behavior and transparency”.
